Transport Options
Flight – The fastest way to reach Lamu is by flying to Manda Airport, followed by a short boat transfer to the island.
Road & Boat – Travel by road to Mokowe on the mainland, then take a dhow or speedboat across to Lamu Island.
Boat Transfers – Private and shared boats operate between Manda Airport, Mokowe, and Lamu Town, offering a scenic arrival by sea.
Safety Advice – The road to Lamu is only open between certain hours during the day, due to previous unrest. Check what the current advice is for travel by road to this area. We can help organise. Not all travel insurance covers by road; flight is often the safest option.
